Power Up To Play delivered an impactful warm-up workshop for club coaches, captains, and players across the Women’s, Men’s, and Junior sections.
Power Up To Play is a charity founded by medical professionals, with the mission to improve young athletes' welfare in grassroots sports by preventing serious knee injuries.
The charity's ambassadors visited us at Oxford Brookes, offering an engaging and interactive session aimed at enhancing both knowledge and practical application of evidence-based warm-up techniques. The session focused on exercises designed to strengthen key muscles, improve stability, and control movements and landing positions. It emphasized warming up the body, plyometrics, muscle strengthening, sports-specific agility, and stretching of major muscle groups. The ambassadors introduced and demonstrated the Prevent Injury, Enhance Performance (PEP) warm-up, an evidence-based routine.
This concise warm-up has been shown to reduce the risk of serious knee injuries when incorporated into regular training. It works by strengthening and activating the stabilising muscles around the knee.
A big thank you goes to Emily, Flick, Sarah, Sam, and Julia for delivering this valuable session!
